Southwell has recently implemented the da Vinci 5®, the most advanced robotic-assisted surgical system from Intuitive, at Tift Regional Medical Center.
The system is the most advanced platform in the da Vinci line, designed for use in urology, gynecology, thoracic, and general surgeries. It features over 150 design innovations, including improved 3D visualization, Force Feedback technology that helps reduce pressure on tissue, and enhanced ergonomics for surgeons.
“The da Vinci 5 gives us a new level of precision while allowing patients to recover faster and with improved surgical outcomes,” said Dr. Andrew Nackashi, Medical Director of Robotic Surgery with Southwell. “It’s exciting to see this level of technology now available in our region.”
Unlike traditional open surgery, robotic-assisted procedures allow surgeons to operate through a few small incisions. The surgeon remains in full control of the system, which translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise instrument movements inside the patient’s body.
Surgeons at Southwell who are trained to use the da Vinci 5 include:
- Dr. Andrew Nackashi, DO
- Dr. William Hornback IV, MD
- Dr. David McEachin, MD
- Dr. Paul Cartwright, MD
- Dr. Ana Hernandez, MD
- Dr. Paul Smurda, MD
- Dr. Joe Clifton, MD
“This technology is part of Southwell’s broader commitment to bringing advanced, minimally invasive care closer to home for our patients across South Georgia,” Dr. Nackashi said.
The da Vinci 5 joins a portfolio of robotic platforms used globally in hospitals and surgical centers.
