The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has awarded accreditation to Tift Regional Health System’s residency training program for internal medicine physicians. A part of Tift Regional Health System’s Graduate Medical Education, the Internal Medicine Residency Program will launch in late June 2026.
“Our team really worked hard to earn this accreditation,” said Kimberly Megow, MD, Chief Quality and Academic Affairs Officer for Southwell. “This accreditation gives us a green light to launch our internal medicine residency program. It will enhance quality of care and help strengthen physician recruitment, retention, and patient coverage.”
The residents will train at Southwell’s facilities. This includes Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Southwell Medical in Adel, and Southwell’s various clinics and outpatient centers located throughout the region.
“This residency program is a full-time, supervised clinical training program designed to develop the skills and experience internal medicine physicians need to practice medicine independently,” said Cameron Nixon, MD, Program Director. “The program will also increase the availability of primary care in our community and expand access.”
Tift Regional Health System’s Internal Medicine Residency Program participates in “The Match” with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and is now registered with the Electronic Resident Application Service (ERAS). The program will accept applications in ERAS for eight available positions until January 12, 2026.
“We are proud to start this new chapter for Tift Regional Health System and Southwell,” said Dr. Megow. “The presence of residents will enhance our system’s reputation, expand capacity, and create a dynamic learning environment for both residents and attending physicians.”
Dr. Megow added that the Tift Regional Health System Graduate Medical Education program is also developing a residency program for obstetrics/gynecology and expects to earn accreditation in early 2026.
