Tift Regional Medical Center and Tift Comprehensive Breast Center Earn National Accreditations from the American College of Surgeons

Tift Regional Medical Center and the Tift Comprehensive Breast Center have each earned national accreditation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS), recognizing their commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based cancer care.

Tift Regional Medical Center received accreditation through the ACS Commission on Cancer (CoC), while the Tift Comprehensive Breast Center was accredited through the ACS National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). These designations demonstrate Southwell’s dedication to comprehensive, patient-centered cancer care that spans prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

The ACS Commission on Cancer (CoC) is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for patients with cancer by setting and raising standards of care. Accreditation is granted only to institutions that meet rigorous standards and demonstrate a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer as a complex group of diseases requiring collaboration among surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and other specialists.

“Tift Regional Medical Center’s CoC accreditation reflects our team’s ongoing commitment to providing coordinated, compassionate, and high-quality cancer care close to home,” said Dr. Apurva Shah, Hematologist/Oncologist and Medical Director of the Anita Stewart Oncology Center. “We are proud to offer comprehensive services that address not only treatment, but also prevention, support, and survivorship.”

The Tift Comprehensive Breast Center earned accreditation from the ACS National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), which recognizes centers that provide the highest level of quality breast care. Programs accredited by the NAPBC follow a model designed to deliver multidisciplinary and integrated breast cancer services, from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

“This recognition underscores the dedication of our breast care team to excellence and collaboration,” said Dr. Andrew Nackashi, Breast Program Director of the Tift Comprehensive Breast Center. “Our patients can be confident that their care meets the highest national standards and is guided by the latest scientific evidence.”

As accredited institutions under the ACS, both Tift Regional Medical Center and the Tift Comprehensive Breast Center are recognized as ACS Surgical Quality Partners. This designation signifies an ongoing commitment to improving processes, maintaining the highest standards of surgical quality, and continually evaluating and enhancing patient care.

“ACS Quality programs are grounded in more than a century of experience, and participation is an important measure of a hospital’s surgical quality,” said Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the American College of Surgeons. “As Surgical Quality Partners, these institutions have demonstrated a commitment to providing the best possible patient care, evaluating that care rigorously, and dedicating themselves to continuous self-improvement.”
