Anita Stewart Oncology Center Celebrates Cancer Survivors During National Cancer Survivors Month

The Anita Stewart Oncology Center celebrated National Cancer Survivors Month on June 8 with a special event honoring the strength, resilience and hope of cancer survivors throughout the community.

Held in recognition of National Cancer Survivors Day, which is observed annually on the first Sunday in June, the celebration featured the theme, “Hope Grows Here.” National Cancer Survivors Day is a worldwide Celebration of Life that recognizes individuals living with a history of cancer and raises awareness of the unique challenges survivors face.

Patients visiting the center throughout the day were welcomed with decorations, breakfast, snacks, cancer ribbon lapel pins and special goodie bags. A survivorship wall invited patients to share their names and messages of hope, creating a visible reminder of the many lives touched by cancer and the strength found in survivorship.

“National Cancer Survivors Month gives us an opportunity to celebrate our patients and recognize the courage they demonstrate every day,” said Denise McAdams, Director of Oncology Service Line for Southwell. “Whether someone is newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment or years beyond their cancer journey, we want them to know they are surrounded by support and hope.”

The Anita Stewart Oncology Center will continue displaying its survivorship wall, decorations and photo backdrop throughout June as a tribute to cancer survivors and their families.

National Cancer Survivors Day began in 1988 and serves as an annual reminder that life after a cancer diagnosis is possible while highlighting the importance of ongoing support and resources for survivors.
