Southwell recently presented certificates to medical staff physicians who completed a seven-month leadership training course at Tift Regional Medical Center. Dr. Kimberly Megow, Chief Quality and Academic Affairs Officer, said the Southwell Physician Leadership Institute is designed to enhance physician self-awareness and further develop a leadership mindset for greater impact.
“Each of these physicians were selected for the program because we believe they can help Southwell further drive healthcare transformation, improve patient care, build a sustainable organization, and foster innovation,” said Dr. Megow. “The course covered an overview of our system of care, hospital finance, regulatory issues, personal development, and technical skills. Sessions were held in the evenings after clinic days. The classes included presentations from both internal and external subject matter experts.”
The graduates of the Southwell Physician Leadership Institute’s first class included orthopedist Dr. David Banks, pathologist Dr. Jessica Beier, emergency medicine specialist Dr. Christopher Edens, hospital medicine provider Dr. Oladipo Fadayomi, cardiologist Dr. William Hancock, pulmonary medicine and critical care specialist Dr. Rubal Patel, anesthesiologist Dr. Ruben Ricardo, pediatrician Dr. Flavia Rossi, family physician Dr. Vincent Valencia, and OB/GYN specialist Dr. Kristin Yates.
“Physician leadership training is important because it bridges the gap between clinical care and administrative decision-making, leading to better patient outcomes and stronger healthcare systems,” said Dr. Megow. “We are grateful to each of these doctors for participating in our inaugural program.”
