Congratulations to Alana Turbeville for being named the inaugural BEE Award recipient by Southwell!
Alana is a Patient Care Technician and Nurse Extern at Tift Regional Medical Center’s Cardiac Step Down Unit (CSDU). Alana will be graduating in July with an LPN degree.
The BEE (Being Exceptional Everyday) Award was established in 2016 by nurses at Jewish Hospital to recognize caregivers in non-licensed nursing roles that go above and beyond and provide exceptional care to patients.
The BEE Award can be connected to the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. It is symbolic in the fact that bees are fundamentally crucial to a daisy’s ability to grow. Just as the daisy cannot bloom without the support of the bee, nurses cannot do their best work without the outstanding teamwork provided by other healthcare professionals.
“Alana always cares for her patients with kindness and compassion.” said Leigh Luke, RN, CSDU Nurse Manager. “Recently, Alana had a patient whose elderly husband came to visit and did not have breakfast. Alana went out of her way and purchased breakfast for him with her own money.”
Leigh said Alana is known for performing small gestures like this, always brightening the day of patients.
“Recently, a patient said she liked a hair clip in the gift shop, so Alana went and purchased it for the patient,” said Leigh. “These acts of kindness show Alana’s heart. We feel that Alana is very qualified to be the first-ever BEE Award winner at Southwell!”
