The annual lighting of the Tree of Life at Tift Regional Medical Center (TRMC) serves as a symbolic tribute to friends, family, and lost loved ones during the holiday season while supporting Hospice of Tift Area and the TRMC Anita Stewart Oncology Center. Located in Tifton, TRMC is the main hospital for Southwell.
This year’s Tree of Life Lighting Ceremony will be held on Dec. 3 at 6:00 p.m. on the TRMC front lawn. This free event includes a candlelight service, live holiday music, special tributes, and refreshments. Purchasing a light for the Tree of Life in honor or memory of a person is a tax-deductible contribution. Different giving levels are available.
“If you are looking for a Christmas gift for family members, friends, or co-workers, consider purchasing a light in their honor or in memory of someone close to them,” said Tressie Mathis, RN, Southwell’s Director of Hospice and Palliative Care Services. “You’ll be benefiting a great cause.”
In its 41st year, the Tree of Life remains a cherished Tifton holiday tradition, Mathis said. Proceeds support Southwell’s hospice and cancer patients who may struggle to cover household bills, groceries, utilities, travel expenses, and other essential personal needs as they face the financial burdens of a serious or life-limiting illness.
“The holidays are meant to lift your spirits and that’s the goal of the Tree of Life ceremony,” said Mathis. “We encourage residents to bring their families and friends to enjoy this poignant, yet festive lighting ceremony on Dec. 3. We appreciate the community’s support.”
